Ara Sivaneswaran

Web Developer From Canada

Hi, my name is Ara. I am a web developer based in Canada. I am a third year student in software engineering.

Developing websites is one of my passions. I love the challenge of bringing an idea to life. I've been developing websites since I was 15, and I love it now as much as I did then.

I worked closely with the main developer and a design firm to implement a new theme for the web application. The theme was coded with Sass in a way that was easy to maintain and modify for future iterations. Our team used the agile working environment and we had to synchronise our work with other teams in different countries and time zones.

eXolnet is a small start-up located in Montreal. They specialise in Web engineering. Basically, they make more advanced websites which involves complex algorithms about calculating impacts of changes in a company or an advanced e-commerce website that allows the user to have sub-categories of each items and much more. I started working as an intern and then I got an offer to stay and work part-time once my internship was over. My tasks involved working on the backend of many projects such as working on a web tool that is used by Desjardins for managing different impacts of changes made. The tool allowed them to see what impact it would cause to open a new branch or merge two positions, etc. I also worked on many RFID Academia projects such as the Dashboard. The Dashboard allowed the user to have real time information about the sales they made in their different events and much more. I also worked on a lot on the control panel. It is a tool used internally to record employee’s times, manage projects, calculate pay checks, and check our finances and a lot more. I was tasked to add a ton of new features and fix many bugs. I also worked on some new projects that are used internally such as help creating a tool called the Launcher. It allowed us to create a new project and have all the necessary information and files to start developing on it right away. It would create the redmine issues, get us the base repository we use and much more.

Greencopper had a ingenious system that allowed music festivals across the globe to show information in a dynamic and elegant way. My job with them was as an intern web developer. I was tasked to work on different web sites to make it look like the models provided by the client. I mostly had to make sure that design we had was reproduced to the smallest details on their website. I also had other tasks on bigger music festivals such as Osheaga and Digital Dreams. I had to make sure some dynamic elements such as photo gallery worked fine with our servers and that everything was in sync. I also that chance to work on their control panel. This tool was used by festival managers to add information such as artists, schedule, etc. about their festival. After that was done, they were able to push these information to their web and mobile apps. My task for this tool was to re-design it with a fresh new design which was provided by a designer. I also had to implement several new features and fix a few bugs. After my four months intern was over, I worked with them part time for four months before returning to my university as a full time student.
